Karmic Numbers

Karma is a principle and concept that features primarily in Indian and Asian religions, namely Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Jainism, and Sikhism. It relates to the idea of rebirth, where we form a being that is part of a chain that extends into both the past and the future.

At the core of the idea of karma is cause and effect – positive actions bring about positive karma whilst negative actions bring about negative karma.

The idea of karma has been popularised in Western culture now too. Have you heard the phrase “what goes around comes around”? This is the basic idea of karma. If you do good deeds and produce positive actions, then it is more likely that positive actions will come back round to you. On the other hand, committing morally questionable or reprehensible acts will increase the likelihood that they’ll also come back round to you.

Karma does not just apply to our current lives, but also our previous and future lives. Throughout our path of spiritual evolution, our various life paths accumulate both positive and negative karma. In this life, we may experience the effects of karma originating from the life previous to this one.

In numerology, karmic numbers are used as a means to discover and connect to our past lives and their karmic characteristics.

Karmic Debt and Karmic Lessons

There are two types of karmic numbers in numerology, karmic debt numbers, and karmic lessons. They both offer a different perspective on our own karmic characteristics and how our lives are influenced by our spiritual histories.

Here is a short summary of each of these two numbers and where you might find them:

Karmic Debt

Karmic debt numbers are discovered primarily from our Life Path Number, as derived from our dates of birth. They indicate obstacles that must traverse as resultant from karmic events in our previous lives. It is an inevitable consequence of our spiritual journey that we encounter obstacles and challenges that we must overcome, but in the case of karmic debt, these are tangibly linked to identifiable events that occurred in past lives.

Some numerologists choose to look at every element of our numerology charts to discover karmic debt numbers.

The Karmic Debt Numbers are 13, 14, 16, and 19.

These could theoretically appear in any of the core numerology numbers, including the Heart’s Desire or Soul Urge Number, Life Path Number and Destiny or Expression Numbers.

They are most likely to appear in the Life Path number, though – this is indicative of how our life path flows freely through many bodies from our spiritual origins to the present day. Your spiritual self, your physical and metaphysical form, is comprised of events that occurred before you were even born.

Consider the sum of the actions of your ancestors, the unbroken near-infinite chain of events that enabled you to be born. Not only is your existence highly unique to you, but it is also the product and result of your spiritual history. Within this chain, the laws of karma have operated at every juncture.

Calculating Karmic Debt

Around half of us may have a karmic debt.

Take the date of birth 1/11/1990

The Birth Month = 1

The Birth Day = 11

The Birth Year = 1990 = 19 = 1

Life Path Number = 1 + 11 + 1 = 13/4

4 is produced from 13, meaning a Karmic Debt Number of 13.

Karmic Lessons

Whilst karmic debts urge forward action on your part to solve the debt and progress past it to balance the spiritual self, karmic lessons provide an insight into elements of your character that you should be especially aware of.

They are primarily derived from your full name. Karmic lessons are represented by numbers missing from your name’s numerology chart.

In Pythagorean numerology, the following chart is used to determine your karmic lessons:

1 = A, J, S

2 = B, K, T

3 = C, L, U

4 = D, M, V

5 = E, N, W

6 = F, O, X

7 = G, P, Y

8 = H, Q, Z

9 = I, R

If we take the example of Charles John Dickens:

C H A R L E S     J O H N      D I C K E N S

3 8 1 9 3 5 1     1 6 8 5        4 9 3 2 5 5 1

Here, we can see that the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 are all present.

7 is missing from the chart, and thus, 7 is the karmic lesson number for Charles John Dickens.

Not everyone has a karmic lesson or karmic debt number. If you do not find either in your numerology chart then this is not a free ticket to forgot your spiritual karma!

Every element of numerology is designed to provide insight and introspect into our spiritual selves – you will always find negative aspects that demand attention – this is part of numerology’s transformative effect on the soul.

What Do My Karmic Debt Numbers Mean?

The Karmic Debt Numbers are 13, 14, 16, and 19.

13

13 primarily represents the processes of work and accomplishment and perhaps relates to the bad luck you caused others in a previous life. It is indicative of a series of seemingly constant niggling spates of bad luck and bumps in the road. Just as you’re getting past a negative event and are starting to feel a sense of accomplishment, another challenge seems to smite you down. Indeed, you could say this is a reflection on how 13 is an unlucky number. The key here is perseverance and focus. Challenges you overcome will always strengthen you, even if the benefits or impacts are not immediately apparent. So long as you maintain your focus and integrity whilst gritting your teeth and moving forward, you have enormous potential to scale great heights. Keep crunching through those challenges, remain grounded, feet to the floor, and eyes on the prize.

14

14 relates to the notion of freedom. Those with karmic debt 14 may have abused this in the past, perhaps leading them down paths of hedonism and self-destruction. This may expose you to a life of rapidly changing fortunes, ups and downs that cause you to lose hope and worsen self-destructive tendencies. Despite the downs, you need to capture and reinforce the ups. Focus on these and build your life upon the sensations that you feel when you are at your happiest. By concentrating on these elements of your life, you can successfully subdue the downswings, erasing your self-destructive tendencies.

16

16 is associated with a destructive sense of inflated self-importance experienced in a past life. It may result from the abuse of a powerful position or position of authority. Those with Karmic Debt Number 16 need to be cautious of their ego, humility will often not come naturally to them and this may damage their persona in the eyes of others. Ironically, this can subvert their own authority. In order to restore humbleness and create humility that will endear you with respect to others, you must consider yourself and your views as spiritually equal to those who you respect and care for. Through humility, your views will take on a newfound worldliness that accentuates their strengths whilst reducing your egotistic tendencies.

19

Karmic debt 19 results from heavy reliance on oneself in a past life. For all its perceived virtues, working entirely independently will cause alienation. Despite the fact you always feel you work better alone, and that you enjoy better focus, concentration, and skill when doing so, if you do not involve others in your work, hobbies, and joys, then their fulfillment will eventually wain. You must learn to enjoy teamwork and mutualism, by working more closely with others, you can maintain your personal projects whilst also involving others, inspiring them whilst simultaneously opening your work to the criticism and outside commentary it needs to thrive.

What Does My Karmic Lesson Number(s) Mean?

Karmic lesson numbers from 1 – 9 are found to be missing from your name’s numerology chart.

Your character suffers from being a non-starter. Your projects and ambitions are present and well accounted for in your mind, but you need to learn them actually get them going! Develop techniques to beat procrastination and get your show on the road!

2

Your intentions are often found to be lacking nuance or tact. This may lead to hurt for others, and can also lead you to be too results-focussed. Instead, learn to enjoy the process more whilst also easing your sharp demeanor to bring about a warmth that will reflect on yourself and others.

3

3 indicates a tendency to be too hard on oneself. Your solution to progress is to put yourself down. By doing so, you feel you will progress and improve. This is not always the case, you must learn to reward yourself for your achievements and not trivialize them, even if you do perceive them to be small.

4

You may feel directionless or unable to settle on one path or trajectory. Do not feel like you need to choose one thing, but do try and narrow your focus. It may be hard to work this alongside your working role, etc, but balancing your professional and personal lives to obtain synergy will bring you a continuous stream of fulfillment.

You’re too willing to retreat into your comfort zone, causing you to lack an adventurous spirit. This is fine to an extent, but you must remain wary of letting life pass you by. If you never seek them, then you may never find the things in life that bring you great fulfillment. There’s a big wide world waiting for you!

6

Sticking to the task at hand is tricky for you and you tend to leave ends untied or projects unfinished. This means you’re always fighting a losing battle with time. One finished project is more fulfilling than 5 unfinished ones. Learn to close one book before opening another.

You are careless and fail to foresee negative sequences of events. This means you tend to walk right into problems that you could have easily avoided with a little foresight. Think before you act – impulsiveness is great but this needs to be balanced with more careful planning.

Stubbornness prevents you from seeking out assistance when you need it. This means you have a tendency to suffer in silence when sharing your problem is all you need to do to fix it. Sharing is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of being brave and open.

9

Empathy is difficult for you and you may fail to understand the perspectives of others. This may lead to confusion over why some people react the way they do to things you say or do. By acting on your more generous instincts, you can turn this around and start to open your heart and mind to how others are.
