Numerology and Astrology
– Revealing the relationship between horoscope and numerology
Numerology and Astrology
Numerology and astrology have both been around for thousands of years. They’ve bloomed from their humble roots in ancient cultures to become two of the modern world’s dominant spiritual theories and concepts. Both draw inspiration and knowledge from the Ancient Greeks who had a long and enduring fascination with the stars, and planets in the hopes of charting the vast unknown.
Ancient Greece gave rise to numerous scientific and spiritual theories that have come to shape Western astrology and numerology. Indeed, numerology and astrology are not confined to European or Western cultures and both have components or disciplines drawn from other cultures and societies including across Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
The Difference Between Numerology and Astrology
Astrology concerns the intrinsic links between Earth, its inhabitants, and the celestial bodies above. At its core is the Zodiac, a belt of constellations that move across the sky. The movement of planets and celestial bodies affects our lives both physically, metaphysically, naturally, and supernaturally. They govern and shape our presence on Earth, our behaviors, and the dynamics of our spiritual lifeforce.
To chart our personalities, our lives, and the cycles, Astrologists rely on the 12 houses of the Zodiac. Each Astrology reading starts out by charting the planets in each of the 12 houses at the time of significance, usually the time of birth.
There is more to Astrology than just the horoscope. The relationships between the signs, planets, and nodes of the chart all influence the reading. There are also elements (earth, air, fire, and water), and modalities (fixed, mutable, and cardinal) that need to be considered.
Whilst the focus of astrology is the stars and planets, the focus of numerology is numbers and their intrinsic link to our reality. Whilst astrology looks at our birth dates and plot the planets according to the 12 houses, we read the vibrations in words and numbers.
Numerology shares many of the same tenets on some level, it too is a type of divination that discovers, uncovers, and decodes elements of our spiritual existence. Numerology is concerned with the expression of vibrations of energy in our lives, the root of which are the numbers 1 to 9. Each of the elements of a numerology chart is a layer of our life, our personality, or our soul. The numbers suggest the types of stimuli that we are drawn to, our natural strengths and weaknesses, as well as provide guidance on how we will find balance and fulfilment in our lives.
The Pythagorean Link
Both Western astrology and numerology link through Pythagoras, an extremely influential Greek mathematician and philosopher who is responsible for numerous theories still used today, e.g. Pythagoras’ Theorem, a discovery about the angles of triangles.
Pythagoras (born 570BC) discovered the nature of pitch and vibration, determining how the pitch of a note is proportional to a length of string or metal tuning fork. To Pythagoras, the planets had similar sonorous properties, and along with Plato, developed a theory of Musical Universalis, or The Harmony of the Spheres. While it may seem unbelievable, NASA actually released a collection of sounds from Space in October 2017.
Jupiter was found to have strong magnetic waves which was recorded by the Juno spacecraft and Saturn constantly emits radio emissions that was monitored by the spacecraft Cassini. – National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
The idea of planets and vibrations later came to influence Ptolemy (100CE), who wrote most of the works that grew into Western astrology. However, the origins of the Zodiac itself date back to over 1000BC.
Pythagoras was also the founder of Pythagorean Numerology. He is said to have famously explained ‘everything is numbers!’ upon his realization of the mathematical and spiritual interconnectedness between us, the world around us, and celestial bodies above us.
Followers of Pythagoras, named the Pythagoreans, went on to continue his work and develop most of the foundations of Western numerology.
Astrology Alter Egos
Numerology, over time, has built a steady link with astrology. This link has been established via the Life Path Number, calculated from our date of birth.
To calculate your Life Path Number, you must reduce your date of birth to a single digit.
So, for the date of birth 10/11/1990, the Life Path Number would be:
1 + 0 = 1
1 + 1 = 2
1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19
1 + 2 + 19 = 22
2 + 2 = 4
= Life Path Number 4.
You can then discover your Life Path astrology alter-ego.
