What Are Vibrations in Numerology?

What Are Vibrations in Numerology?

In everyday terms, a vibration is a generated electromagnetic wave with a frequency, wave length, and amplitude. A vibration, scientifically speaking, is an oscillation. It repeats over and over as it travels outwards from its source. Each wave carries energy equal to its amplitude squared.

However, what is a vibration when applied to Numerology?

In Numerology, vibrations are collective concepts which can traced back to the writings of Pythagoras. Each vibration has an energy associated with it. By extension, this gives each number an associated energy since they each have a vibration.

That’s how certain people have a “positive vibe”, certain places have a “somber vibe”, or how certain objects have a “lucky vibe” associated with them.

Everyone and everything are associated with a number and that means that they have a vibration that can be calculated, numerologically speaking. It is the numbers that are associated with people and objects that influences how we feel about them.

The Mystical Properties of Numbers

While studying numbers and mathematics, Pythagoras made many interesting discoveries in the field. Most of us know about Pythagorean Theorem or would have studied about it in school. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Pythagoras also discovered much, much more.

For example, he found that there are mathematical properties in music and he made several significant discoveries in astronomy, medicine, and architecture. Pythagorean theorem has been used in the design in many famous buildings, dating as far back as Babylonian times. It was these discoveries that led him to delve into the mystical properties of numbers.

It is interpreted that everything in the world can be described in our understanding of mathematics. Looking through human history, mathematics is likened to a language that has been a constant over eras and cultures. No matter what language civilizations wrote or spoke, numbers were a constant. How they counted, how they measured, and how they made calculations were the same across history.

Mathematicians across the ages delve into the arcane but mainstream realms of calculations, formulae, trigonometry, and algebra.

Numerologist, on the other hand, study the properties and vibration of numbers.

Balliett & Numerology

It is from Mrs. L. Dow Balliett that the idea of numbers having a vibration came about. Balliett was an influential speaker that was active in the early 1900’s.

She wrote several books such as “How to Attain Success Through the Strength of Vibration of Numbers: A System of Numbers as Taught by Pythagoras”, “The day of wisdom according to number vibration”, and “The philosophy of numbers; their tone and colors”. These were based around Pythagoras’s theories and the term “Mathematical mysticism” was coined.

Balliett made several references to the Bible and God in her works and frequently adopted a spiritual view in her writings. There is constant writing about our soul and incarnations and how each of us seeks a certain experience. While that may give her writings an esoteric view, she has also referenced geology, science, and atoms. This has resulted in Numerology being relegated as a “Pseudo Science”.

More importantly, it was in Balliett’s works that the idea of vibration in Numerology came about.

Balliett & Vibration of Numbers

The idea of vibration is a central theme of Balliett’s works. In her core book “How to Obtain Success Through the Vibration of Numbers”, Balliett wrote that “all things are in a vibratory condition”.

Balliett believed that everything from animals, to people, to objects vibrate at its own rate as part of a “Celestial Choir” or “Nature’s Chorus”. The higher the rate of vibration, the more “spirit force” she believes an object or person has. After all, Pythagoras, whom greatly influenced Balliett, believes that everything in the world and in the Heavens vibrate to the numbers.

By extension, she believed that each letter of the alphabet also had its own vibration and even its own color. Using the Ten Fundamental Laws of Opposites, by Pythagoras of course, she laid out the numbers into a pattern as such:

While our physical forms may vibrate at a certain frequency, Balliett attributes this to our souls being influenced by the Earth’s lower frequency currents. It is only through living at our highest possible frequency that we are able to find true peace and happiness.

It is our souls that seek out certain vibrations to learn lessons in the world. Such as the vibration of wealth or poverty, addiction or moderation, dependence or freedom. It is our soul’s choice to incarnate to seek out experiences in order to grow.

Names & Vibrations

Your name is made up of a series of letters and each one has a vibration. Put together, this is your known as your Expression Number. This is the vibe you give off. It shapes how you perceive the world as well as how the world perceives you.

The practice of associated letters with numbers is known as Gematria. While the word itself has Jewish origins, the chart that numerologists use does not. Depending on the system that is used, each letter (and therefore each word and each name) can have a different vibration.

Once each letter is assigned a number, it is possible to calculate the value of a word by adding up the numbers of each letter. A Numerology chart can then be drawn up for the person using these numbers along with others.

Life Path & Vibrations

Since everything has a vibration, each of us also have a natural vibration based upon the numbers in our birthday. The day, month, and year of our birth is a series of numbers that individually have an effect on the vibe we give off but put it together and you get the Life Path. This is arguably the most important number in Numerology.

As we know, each number has a vibration. Therefore, each Life Path has its own vibration as well.

Those born with a Life Path of 1 to 7 are said to have limited vibrations. This means that those bearing a Life Path 1 to 7 can be spiritual individuals or be active in a religious organization but they are limited to the confines of the physical world. Their focus is on this plane of existence and on helping their fellow man.

The numbers 8 and above are said to be vibrating at the vibration of freedom. They possess a mystical characteristic and have a strength far deeper than they may display. These are great souls that vibrate at a much higher frequency and are more in tune with their source. Balliett believes that these incarnations vibrating at a higher frequency are here as helpers as they are more mature and wiser.

This corresponds to our understanding of Master Numbers in modern day Numerology, but it also extends to the numbers 8 and 9. When we live and operate at our highest vibrations, meaning closer to our Soul Urge and Life Path, all things work to our benefit. Everything works as the Universe intends; for the highest good.
